Building for the future means reducing energy consumption during construction and over the building’s lifespan (by increasing the energy performance of buildings), as well as using sustainable materials. At Soprema, we are dedicated to making the construction industry more environmentally friendly. We are very proud to be involved in major NZEB and LEED-certified projects in Ireland, including: IPC House, 40 Molesworth Street, 1 Molesworth Street, DAA Head Office, TCD Business School.
As a global manufacturer, we fully understand the role we play in sustainable construction by developing sustainable materials. For us, creating sustainable products for our systems and solutions means using recycled raw materials, having a sustainable production process, and producing materials that are reusable / recyclable at the end of its life. Another important measurement of sustainability for us is to create high-quality products that have a long lifespan.
Read on to find out how Soprema ticks both boxes thanks to our high-quality, high-performance product range and exceptional technical service.
High-quality, sustainable products from Soprema
At Soprema, we offer reliable and robust waterproofing, insulation, soundproofing, and roof garden solutions for the complete building envelope. In what follows, we present a selection of them, along with their sustainability benefits:
Thermal insulation – XPS and wood fibre insulation
SOPRA XPS is a high-performance, long-lasting, durable, and sustainable XPS insulation range boasting exceptionally high compressive strength, high dimensional stability, excellent moisture-resistance, low thermal conductivity, and consistent low lambda values year after year. SOPRA XPS range is a perfect example of waste products being turned into valuable construction materials. The XPS insulation boards are made from recycled plastic with climate-friendly CO2 technology. With a lifespan of 60 years, SOPRA XPS insulation boards can then be recycled at the end of their life.
PAVATEX is a high-performance, long-lasting, and sustainable wood fibre insulation range made from wood chips perfect for circular construction and passive house projects. PAVATEX has excellent thermal performance and heat storage capacity, superior breathability, and moisture control, keeping warmth during winter and preventing building overheating in the summer. PAVATEX is entirely made from residual material from sawmills and can be recycled at the end of its life. Moreover, any left-over waste from PAVATEX production is processed and reused as a renewable energy source.
Roof gardens – Green, brown, blue, and solar roofs
Roof gardens are an excellent way to convert unused areas into practical and sustainable spaces, creating biodiversity and habitats for wildlife and pollinators and creating relaxation spaces for building users, increasing their wellbeing. Roof gardens also help to reduce the urban heat island effect by regulating temperature in the summer, improve water retention and filtration by limiting the storm water run-off water into rainwater draining systems, provide additional soundproofing and thermal insulation, and protect the waterproofing and roof surface from diverse weather conditions (sun, rain, wind) and UV light.
At Soprema, we understand the growing demand for robust and sustainable roofing solutions. We offer complete roofing solutions, from reliable, watertight waterproofing systems to compatible, bespoke roof gardens, including extensive and intensive green roofs, brown roofs, blue roofs, and solar roofs.
Synthetic and structural waterproofing
Our synthetic roofing systems (featuring both TPO and PVC membranes) allow for simple, safe, and completely flame-free installation on site. They are lightweight, flexible at low temperatures, adaptable to structural movements, UV resistant, and rotproof. Our single-ply synthetic waterproofing solutions come with important environmental benefits – they have a 30+ years lifespan and can be fully recycled and turned into copper and silver art at the end of their life.
Our DUOFLEX hot melt structural waterproofing system forms a strong, long-lasting, durable, flexible, and self-healing monolithic barrier to the transmission of water and water vapour. It is designed to last the lifetime of the structure to which it is applied, leading to low building life cycle costs.
Soprema’s long-lasting, sustainable solutions and exceptional technical service
In sustainable construction, the durability of materials has an enormous impact on both the building’s service life and its maintenance requirements. At Soprema, we are leading the way in developing high-quality, high-performance, durable solutions for buildings that can be enjoyed for generations to come in an environmentally responsible way, by investing in eco-friendly transportation methods and sustainable production whereby we limit water use, focus on waste recycling, reduce energy consumption, and treat atmospheric emissions.
As part of the complete solution, we offer exceptional technical service including:
- Rainwater and wind uplift calculations
- U-value/condensation risk analysis
- On-site and technical support
- Specifications
- Advice on management and maintenance
- Core sampling and thermal imaging surveys
- In-house design team
With a list of well-trained Soprema approved contractors, Soprema is a one-stop-shop for the complete building envelope, offering the highest-quality systems installed to the highest standard, all under one single-point warranty.
