Situated on the corner of Dublin’s Dawson Street and Molesworth Street is 30,000 sq ft of office space that was developed by IPUT in the course of 2016 and 2017. SOPREMA was heavily involved in the refurbishment, together with main contractor PJ Hegarty and Michael Collins Architects. The resulting building on 40 Molesworth Street achieved LEED Gold Certification. SOPREMA provided the green roof and a cool roof in white felt.
Cold and green roof
In June 2016, the existing building on 40 Molesworth Street was stripped to its frame (though 76% of the existing structure was retained, a decision encouraged by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system). The entire building envelope was redone, with new external brickwork, glazing and roof covering, and two penthouse office flours were added. SOPREMA installed a bitumen felt warm roof with SOPRANATURE® GREEN roof, as well as a white felt roof to deliver high solar reflectance and to create a cool roof, thereby contributing to the building’s LEED Gold Certification.

LEED’s high environmental and sustainability standards were not the only challenge that came with the detached, reconstructed modern office building on 40 Molesworth Street. The refurbishment site was situated right in the city centre – a superb business location indeed, but quite a difficult place to work in and to deliver materials to. The result, nonetheless, turns out to be more than worth the extra effort, winning an Irish Construction Excellence Award as the ‘Refurbishment, Retrofit, Fit-out Project of the Year 2018’.
